Our Department
HISTORY
In September 1969, Tom Harris started the fire department and it became chartered in 1976. First meetings were held in the Rolling Oaks community center. In the late 70's, the department temporarily operated station #2 in the Waco Bay subdivision of Hunt county. This station operated under the ROVFD name until the Waco Bay subdivision was able to form their own fire department in March of 1988. Rolling Oaks VFD has gone thru the growing pains of training personnel and acquiring apparatus. Starting off with coveralls for bunker gear, a 2-stall garage for a firehouse and untrained men with one small truck, the department has grown to trained firefighters, a support volunteer staff, approved bunker gear, SCBAs, tanker, brush truck, two other apparatus, a 3-stall firehouse which houses the department's office and training/meeting room, and a helipad.
TODAY
ROVFD responding territory covers a 55 square mile area of northeast Van Zandt county in the Lake Tawakoni area, including the Lake Tawakoni State Park. In addition to covering our own territory, we provide mutual aid to the Wills Point Fire Department as well as several surrounding Van Zandt, Hunt and Kaufman county departments.
